What stupid things I've done to make the motor

I have studied electric before when I was in middle school. I was smug that I think I can handle it without reading those 2 pages instruction in English. So I didn't wrap the 14AWG wire on the bottom of the string.

I thought the wire was used to bulb up the power of the motor. But actually it can create a magnetic field when the electricity goes through it. Because battery has +and - part that the electricity goes from + to-. And magnetic systems have N and S. When they combine, it can create a large magnetic field.
so I have to remove the neels and wrap that hard wire on them QAQ which is a really exhausted job.

How hard to build a motor!!!

I would say it's not hard to build a motor if I followed the instructure at first and go through it. But I didn't, it caused so much trouble.

The hardest part is to get everything. I went to home depo and tried to find the iron. They were not too big or too small to use. Because I was told to find some 80 cent iron, I got nothing. I found the 14AWG single strip, wire but I found it 20 dollars expensive than what I had been told.  I found lots of strings but I could not be sure about how it will be so I didn't buy it either. So I only bought a lamp wire and battery in there.

When I finally find everything and started to build my motor. I was struggled by stapling two string cross together.  My host dad gave me some duck tape and it worked well.

When I wrapped the magnet wire on it. I tried my best to make it close to each other and tight. But I found out it was too tight that the other side was getting wider. So I have to redo it. I put a little piece of metal at the end of the side I was wrapping. so it won't get smaller.

When I finished wrapping hundreds times of wires, and finish building it, i started to test it.

It started to shake and connect to the side. I tried to find the problem. I realized it might be that I over cross the side with the magnet wire to staple the cross. When I changed that, it started turning slowly!!! When I fixed the brushes a little bit, it started to spin really fast.

Because I found out how did the motor in the classroom can be wrapped so smoothly, I think I did a pretty good job on that.

It's hard to build but I had lots of fun playing with it when it start to spin.

General Motor

We can see all kinds of motors in our daily life. The most common kind is  in cars. The motors in car are generated by fossil fuel. It turned fossil energy to thermal energy  and then into kinetic energy.
But this is not the motor we are going to build. This motor was invented by Thomas Edison. By using electronic current to create magnetic field and by turning the + and - side to lead the motor move.
The first time i saw a motor was on a model car when i was in primary school. And it used the Edison motor to generate its power.

I always saw boys playing it and show off their new motors. And I also saw them messing up with it by getting rid of the shell and using the part inside as a spinning top.

state of equilibrium

We did a lab report during the last semester talking about the equilibrium force on the force table which calculate the equal force in different angles.

When all the forces that act upon an object are balanced, then the object is said to be in a state of equilibrium. The forces are considered to be balanced if the rightward forces are balanced by the leftward forces and the upward forces are balanced by the downward forces. If an object is at equilibrium, then the forces are balanced. Balanced is the key word that is used to describe equilibrium situations. Thus, the net force is zero and the acceleration is 0 m/s/s. Objects at equilibrium must have an acceleration of 0 m/s/s. This extends from Newton's first law of motion.

The important rule to make a great bridge which can afford huge weight is separate the force to all parts of the bridge, so the angles and arch can help with this problem.

About my new born bridge

I didn't start to build my bridge yet but I'm going to build a bridge like this
Triangle is stable and easy to build, this  makes me want to build this one rather that an arch one.

A little bit Bridges!!!!

This Picture is a great explanation about all kinds of bridges, but it doesn't mention where to use those kinds of bridges.

Truss Bridge and Arch bridge always use as cross roads, because they are easy to build and it cannot allow long distance between two touches.

By using iron chain, Cantilever Bridge, Cable-Stayed Bridge and Suspension Bridge Can support long distance between the touches. They are always built on wide rivers or cross the channel. Although it looks like those three kind of bridges are better than those two, these three kinds cannot use as the bridges to cross the channel. That's means those three kinds have wide limit.

Programing

When we finished building the Lego robot. It's time to let it move. It's challenging to find the correct instruction when I programed it. It shows each part as a symbol that looks similar but different from the real one. My program is based on the example that is given in the book. I let the program circulate and find out the function of each symbol.  I created the programing that allowed the robot to move forward, stop in front of the box, pull down the arm and move backward. We got the right program but it couldn't catch the box because the carpet is not smooth and it changed the way that the robot went. But after over 15times try, the robot got the box and get back.O(∩_∩)O~~
